apple ipod touch… video format?

i’m buying ipod touch but it doesn’t support Xvid format (or somethin) in which ALL the tv shows i download are. Am i supposed to convert it???? I don’t want to go for creative vision because its screen is half the size but is it really cumbersome to convert the videos? If it isn’t, can ne1 provide a link from where I can find a converter??
