Can I play Backwards Compatible xbox games in my 360 over xbox live?

I’m planning on getting some games like Star Wars Battlefront, and Halo and some others, but what I really want to know is if Xbox Live is also enabled for Backwards Compatible Xbox Games, because if they’re not.. what’s the point?
