can i use the iphone’s other features (everything excluding the phone) without unlocking it ?

can i buy an iphone and be able to use it without unlocking it ?
can i use the other features , such as the wifi internet , ipod , etc. without unlocking the phone ?
or , is the iphone completely unable to be used in any way whatsoever without unlocking it ?
i want to buy an iphone but be able to use it (excluding the phone feature) without unlocking it .
so then , oneday if i do decide to use the phone feature , i can have it unlocked .
but for the meantime , i want to be able to use it (like i said , excluding the phone feature) without unlocking it .
will i be able to use everything else other than the phone without unlocking it ?
