Can you play Grand theft auto III (3) on the 360 with the original xbox disc?

So I'm trying to buy the GTA games again (I once had them but my house was robbed) I don't have a PS2 and I know there's a GTA 3 for the xbox. BUT I have done some research and on some sites it doesn't mention GTA III anywhere being able to play on the 360. I've found some sites that say you can and some (like xbox.com) don't have it on their lists. So can someone tell me if I can play GTA III on the 360? Please mention if you HAVE done it. Also does the xbox emulator (the ability to play backwards compatible games) cost anything. Usually xbox charges for a lot of stuff so do emulators cost anything?
