Can you use a Belkin stereo link cable for iPod with your computer?

I just bought some new speakers for my room and I was wondering if I could use my stereo link cable for my iPod with my computer. My computer doesn't have AV ports so I can't connect it that way, so is it possible for me to connect it through the cable (ie put the headphone jack end into the headphone port on my computer)?
