iPod can only play mp4 videos. You can not transfer your DVD to ipod directly with iTunes. You need to convert DVDs to iPod MP4 formats with a converter: http://www.videoconvertergold.com .

I use http://www.vixy.net to convert my videos to mp4.
All you need is the url of the video, and to keep your browser open. The site does all the work for you.

use videora, it rips videos and downloads them, then just use videora's converting tab to convert and sync to your ipod.

The video needs to be in .mp4 or .mov (Quicktime Movie) format - both are accepted by iTunes. Lately, I've found that converting them to .mp4 doesn't always work, so if that happens, just convert it to .mov!
Here are the directions:
- Right-click/copy the URL of the video that you want.
- Go to http://zamzar.com/url and right-click/paste the URL into the box.
- Choose Convert To …. .mp4 or .mov
- Type in your email address.
- Click Convert It.
- A few minutes later they'll send you a link. Follow it and save the vid to your computer.
- Open iTunes and at the top, click File > Add File To Library.
- Find the vid.
There ya go! It'll be added to your library, under Movies. (To change it, right-click on the vid and choose Get Info. Then click on the "Video" tab. From there you can change it to Movie, TV Show, or Music Video).
