usually an mp3 song ranges from 3-6mb with fair quality.. so assume that a mp3 is 5mb each.. now do the math. 4gb (x1024mb) divided by 5mb thats for the mp3s.
but remember, a 4gb ipod does not have an actual 4gb space maybe roughly around 3.7-3.9gb.. hth

Well, to find out the amount of songs, do the following
GB (In your case 4 / 8 ) * 1024 = answer1
answer1 / 5 = Total
Total will be your amount of mp3's it can store.
Pics… Do the above, but instead of / 5 do / 2
Movies - If full length, and properly ripped, Do above, and / 700
