e? I heard buyers of the 3g iphone must sign a contract right there and then in the store when purchasing the device. so, how can you unlock it? will that increase the demand of first gen iphones since they are unlockable?
yeah, the 1st generation iphone you could buy and activate online, over the phone, etc. so you could still buy them but not activate them and just use them however you wish. but i heard with the 3g it won't be possible because you can not walk out of the store with an iphone unless it is activated? is this true?

It's important to note buyers of the first generation iPhone also had to sign contracts with AT&T when purchasing the phone from an AT&T Store. When you buy the 3G, you'll still have to purchase the A&T plan, but it will negate you previous AT&T plan. The value of the first generation phones will probably not devalue that much since the new phones will also be "unlockable," though I don't recommend unlocking the iPhone because doing it wrong can "brick" the phone.

I honestly think that the prices of the 1st generation ones are going to go up once the 3g comes out. Also, you cannot unlock the new 3g phones. I just bought a 1st gen iPhone over the weekend, because I wanted to get it before the prices sky rocket. I think the prices are gona go up because they are gonna be in higher demand, cause you are right, you hafta sign a contract with the 3g phone right inside the store and I was told that they can't be unlocked..and people want to use them with other GSM carriers. I am not sure if you are looking to buy a 3g, but if you are, I would wait a month or so before you bought it, because when the 1st generation iPhones first came out, the first set of them were defective, so that might happen with the new ones too. But if you are looking to get an iPhone and unlock it, I would suggest getting a 1st gen one asap. On ebay, they are selling for like $600 because all the stores are sold out and they discontinued it. You should get it off craigslist.org. That's where I got mine and I got an 8 gb for $300. I hope that helped!
